In fraternity, Mary inspires our journey

Fraternity «L’Hermitage»

29/03/2010: Puerto Rico

Pablo, Nidia, Luis, Lourdes, Javier, Matilde, Sandra, Raquel, Víctor, Enid, Paco, Ela, Carlos, Ivonne, Ana, Eric, Jeanie, Teddy, Roxana, Edgar, Zayra, Edwin, Nitza, Brenda, Javier, Andy, María Clara, Salvador: we are the members of the « L’Hermitage » fraternity. For nearly three years we have grown together and provided one another with mutual help. Today we are grateful and feel ourselves motivated to take new steps in the projects which will help us respond to the call we are hearing, for it comes from God. We want to carry on the charism and the mission of Saint Marcellin Champagnat, our Founder.

One of our features as a fraternity is to try to incarnate in ourselves the spirit of the pilgrim. Someone who sets out on pilgrimage feels like a walker who goes forward among his/her brothers. The pilgrim remains open to others, accepting of collaborating and receiving, always driven by the force of the Spirit towards new horizons which open before him. We have always felt ourselves very identified with Mary, our Good Mother. That is why we have been on pilgrimage to several sanctuaries in Puerto Rico. With these gestures, we want to show, in our way, that we are carrying Mary in our hearts, that we want to learn from her, and in truth, that she is the one who animates our journey.

Another practice that has helped us feel united and strong in our commitment to live a project of brotherhood is the fact of having taken part in the Sunday celebration of the Eucharist in the parishes of some of the members of the fraternity. We all meet with the families for the celebration, then there is a time for fraternal sharing. It seems to us that these are times very suited to getting to know one another better and act so that the ideal of our fraternity becomes a reality. We believe that, while giving witness as fraternity, we are also enriching ourselves from the life and presence of the different parish communities which we visit.

As a last word, in July this year, a group of our fraternity and some members of other fraternities from Guatemala will have the joy of going in pilgrimage to L’Hermitage in order to become more imbued with the spirit which Champagnat has left us and which we have received as a heritage. It is a special joy for us who have wished to call ourselves by the name of this harbor of peace and spirituality.

From Puerto Rico and to you all, a fraternal greeting in Mary and Champagnat.
