Brother Ivon Bédard runs an accounting course for Provincial Administrators

12/04/2007: General House

Brother Ivon Bédard, who was Econome General during the mandate of Brother Benito Arbués, ran a course in Rome for people who have the responsibility of administering the goods of religious institutes in the respective Provinces. The course lasted from the 13th to the 30th March 2007, and the sessions were held in the premises of the General House in EUR, with an intensive morning and evening timetable.

The contents of the course were mainly centred on accounting. The afternoon session focussed on the following subjects, presented by specialists: Mission, spirituality, role and responsibility of the Administrator, relations with local investors, collaboration of laypeople, plan, budget, accounting, Finance Commissions, investments, property, other economic recourses, security, questions of a juridical, canonical and civil nature, and patrimony.

The group of fifty-one participants, from twenty-eight countries, represented twenty-seven distinct religious congregations and spoke twenty-four different maternal languages. Their origin, by continent, was also very varied: Europe (14), Oceania (1), Africa, (9), Asia (19), Central America and South America (6) and North America (2). Among the participants we should note the presence of Brothers Thomas Chin, Francisco Baeza, Mervyn Perera and Kasongo Mwape.

The Association of the Economes General is an institution constituted by the Economes General of Institutes of Consecrated Life or of Societies of Apostolic Life. The principal aim of this association is to help its members in the exercise of their responsibilities in accord with evangelical values and the needs of the times; as well, to provide information about new methods or techniques that favour their work in organising and co-ordinating the services that they need. And finally, to promote the association and co-operation between the members of Institutes.
