Award from the Marist High School

30/04/2007: United States

Marist High School’s faculty recently named Bro. Richard Grenier, FMS “Heart of the School”, which is an award given to one faculty member annually.

The 2006-2007 school year marks Bro. Rich’s thirty-eighth year at Marist, where he’s wore many hats during his career. Since 1969 Grenier has served the school in a multitude of roles including teacher, department chair, dean of discipline, coach and athletic director. In the classroom he taught economics, history, religion, finance and accounting. After school he led cross country runners, track jumpers and football and basketball players to individual and team championships. In 2001, Bro. Rich was inducted into the school’s athletic Hall of Fame for lifetime achievement.

Today, Bro. Rich continues to serve Marist in a variety of ways. He moderates the Mothers’ and Fathers’ Clubs, substitute teaches and covers a variety of other supervisions in the school. He’s at nearly every game and school event and knows the names of countless students. He is often found in the hallway enforcing the school dress code and congratulating students on their accomplishments.

On being named Heart of the School, Bro. Rich says, “Although I may have been designated the heart of the school, it is our dedicated staff which constitutes the real life-blood of our Marist High School community.”

Outside Marist, Bro. Rich pursues several passions, including his support of his alma mater, the University of Notre Dame, and playing congas any chance he has. He’s especially devoted to his vocation and the Marist Brothers.

The “Heart of the School” award is given to a faculty member that emulates everything that Marist is about—its mission and values. Faculty members nominate their peers and then vote on the top two or three nominees each year.
