Marists welcome WYD cross and icon

20/08/2007: Australia

The WYD Cross and Icon, symbols to the young people of the world of reconciliation, healing and hope, have arrived in Australia to begin their pilgrimage around the country. The Cross and Icon were welcomed in Sydney by a delegation of young people from all over Australia.

The delegation carried the Cross and Icon from the resting place at North Sydney of Australia’s first saint, Mary Mackillop, over the Sydney Harbour Bridge to a huge gathering of young people at Darling Harbour.

Jacquie Dynan lives in Sydney and works as a physiotherapist. She has spent time using her physio skills volunteering at the Sala Lavalla school in Cambodia. Jacquie is an active member of the Young Marist network and was very excited to represent all young Marists in this special event marking the beginning of the Australian part of the Journey of the Cross and Icon. She is looking forward to taking part in the handover of the Cross and Icon for the final mass at the Marist International Festival.

All participants at the Marist International Festival will have the opportunity to touch and reverence the WYD Cross.
