History of the Archives

JuanUp to the end of the XVIII General Chapter in 1985, Brother Paul Sester informs us, the Archives of the Congregation were housed on the second floor of the General Administration building and in the vast basements of the house. The documents were classified in the following manner:

1- Founder
2 - History
3 - Administration
4 – Relations with other bodies
5 - Personnel
6 - Provinces
 7 - Finances

Only the documents relating to Father Champagnat were divided into subgroups and not in a definitive way.

The other documents carried no other indication than the figure recording their position followed by two zeros. Thus, what concerned the Provinces carried the no. 600.
Principally Brothers Avit, Emery, Jules-Victorin, Paul Sester, ArchivosJP. Cotnoir, illustrious predecessors in the charge and works proper to the Archives, traced out an extensive historical path, which it is always instructive to return to in whatever phase of the journey.

To follow the history already told, the following articles and references can be consulted:
Bulletin, 1957 page. 165 ff. (Our Archives) by Brother Jules –Victorin, and Marist Notebooks Nº 1  page 1 ff. (Our Archives, historical essay), by Brother Paul Sester.
In them we find the process followed by our documents in the vicissitudes this patrimony of the institute has passed through.
