Australian Marist Schools Conference

class=imgshadowThe biennial conference for leaders from our Australian Marist Schools is being held this week in Cairns with the theme "He Gave Us the Name of Mary". Over 200 are present - principals and others from school leadership teams. This year, principals were encouraged also to bring a younger member of staff, someone who may become a leader in the future. About a third of the attendees are taking part in their first Marist Schools Conference.

The main presenter is the Superior General, Brother Emili Turu, who has come directly from World Youth Day to be present. He has been speaking on his Circular which, of course, is the theme of the Conference. He looked at the three icons which underpin his Circuar - those of the Annuniciation, the Visitation and Pentecost. Other keynote speakers have been Scripture scholar, Sister Michele Connolly (who spoke on the Biblical roots of the Magnificat and put it in terms of the Conference theme) and Director of Catholic Education in South Australia, Dr Paul Sharkey (who spoke on new ways for Catholic schools to serve the Gospel).
